Teaching children about God and Jesus is a very important program at Grace Church. Classes for children ages preschool to 12 meet every Sunday at 9:30 AM all year long. The teaching staff mixes learning about God together with activities, singing, and fun.
Grace Church has an active evangelism committee that meets every other month. The committee’s work involves planning and implementing activities around a variety of aspects of evangelism including fund raising, missions, and the prayer chain.
Fund Raising: Grace Church sponsors many activities for fundraising which contribute financially to the operation of the church. Each of these activities, however, provide opportunities for more than just financial growth. Not only does fund raising produce income, these activities allow us to work together, to have fun, and to interact and spread God’s message to others. Some of the fund raising activities include:
Annual Bull & Oyster Roast – This is an offsite event. The menu includes pit beef, pit ham, oysters on the half shell, oyster stew, and many other items. Auctions, gaming wheels, and a DJ make this event a memorable evening.
Holiday Fair – On a Saturday in November, the church opens it’s doors to the community for the sale of crafts, food, and holiday items.
Fall Dance – This is an offsite event that has become an annual tradition. Attendees bring covered dishes to share with others. A DJ provides music for fun and dancing.
Sharing Our Gifts Auction – This event provides opportunity to both share something to be auctioned and to bid on items for purchase. Dinners, cakes, restaurant gift certificates, artwork, and home services are but a few of the items for auction.
Theatre Outings – From time to time, group tickets are purchased to local events. The church makes a small profit on the tickets and the attendees enjoy the show with Grace friends. Examples include The Lion King, Cats, and The Color Purple at the Hippodrome Theatre.
Missions: The evangelism committee oversees our work for local missions. Please see the link for Missions for details.
Prayer Chain: The people of the church are divided into local cells for a calling tree. When needed, the prayer chain is started to spread the word among the congregation that prayers are needed for someone.
Grace Church provides space for and supports the work of the Allen Center for Senior Citizens. This independent group uses the church building on weekdays and other times to provide a program for neighborhood senior citizens. They provide educational events, exercise, social programs, and opportunities for service for seniors. A daily hot meal is shared as well.
