Summer Schedule from June thru August: 9:30 am
Greeters: This is an important role to welcome people as they enter the church. It simply requires a smile and a kind word. Greeters also distribute worship folders and ask visitors to sign the church guest book. If you are interested in doing this, please notify any Consistory member.
Ushers: Ushers collect offering and present it to the pastor for the dedication. . If you are interested in doing this, please notify any Consistory member.
Liturgists: Liturgists lead the congregation in the Call to Worship and the Invocation. If you are interested in doing this, please notify any Elder.
Choir: The Adult Choir sings an anthem during worship every Sunday. In addition, the Choir performs an Easter Cantata and a Christmas Cantata. The Choir welcomes new members whether fulltime or periodically for short periods. Choir practice occurs every Wednesday evening from September thru May at 7:30 pm.
Flowers: Fresh Flowers are placed on the altar every week. Many people wish to provide the flowers as a dedication in memory or in honor of someone. The dedication is listed in the worship folder. Those who provide the flowers receive them after the worship service. To reserve a date, please complete an Altar Flower form (found in the church office) and place that together with the monetary donation in the offering plate. The cost is $15 per date for a set of 2 standard flower arrangements (one for each side of the altar). A chart hangs in the hallway outside the office that shows dates that may be open or already taken for flowers. If someone desires to dedicate flowers on a date that is already taken, a special flower arrangement may be ordered. If a second or special flower arrangement is desired, the process is the same. However, the cost of a second or special flower arrangement is $25.
Candles: For every service, there are 10 candles arranged in 2 candelabras at the back of the altar. Candles may be provided as a dedication in memory or in honor of someone. Candles are provided for an entire month and the dedication is listed in the worship folder throughout the month. To reserve a date, please complete a Candle form (found in the church office) and place that together with the monetary donation in the offering plate.
Sanctuary Lights: The Sanctuary Light is a candle that hangs in a lantern suspended from the ceiling above the chancel area. Sanctuary Lights may be provided as a dedication in memory or in honor of someone. They are provided for an entire month and the dedication is listed in the worship folder throughout the month. To reserve a date, please complete a Sanctuary Light form (found in the church office) and place that together with the monetary donation in the offering plate.
Communion is held multiple times throughout the year. All confirmed persons or anyone who professes to be a Christian may receive communion. There are a variety of ways that communion is celebrated at Grace Church including rail communion (people kneel at the rail), intincture (bread is dipped in wine/ grape juice), or pew communion (elements are distributed to people as they sit in the pews).
During communion, we invite children who are not confirmed, including babies, to come forward to receive a blessing during the administration of the elements. Those receiving a blessing should keep their hands at their sides or folded in front. Those receiving the elements should extend their hands.
